Williams Fence has been a part of Lakeland, Florida for over 50 years now. To put that into perspective, we thought it would be fun to make a list of ten important events in history that have taken place since we opened our doors in 1959.

  1. The assassination of President John F. Kennedy (1963)
  2. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech (1963)
  3. Neil Armstong’s first steps on the moon (1969)
  4. The Watergate Scandal (1972-1974)
  5. Last U.S. troops leave Vietnam (1973)
  6. The royal wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana (1981)
  7. The fall of the Berlin Wall (1989)
  8. The launch of the Hubble Space Telescope (1990)
  9. Jimmy Carson’s farewell episode (1992)
  10. The inauguration of Barack Obama, the first black president of the U.S. (2009)
